If you have been keeping score, then you know there have been about 9 strandings of humpback whales across the shore of New York and New Jersey since December 2022. The last one washed ashore in the neighboring town of Manasquan. Recently, 3 dolphins stranded themselves and died in the surf at Sandy Hook Bay. The Marine Mammal Stranding Center dispatched a team to the scene but didn’t make it in time to save the animals. The team did remove the animals for further investigation into their deaths. The Director of the Center, Sheila Dean, stated that it’s not uncommon for dolphins to get stranded in the winter, but it is strange for three of them to get lost at once. Local residents and at least 13 Jersey shore mayors believe that the sonar exploration for a large Wind project that is being performed offshore of the NY and NJ coasts is causing confusion in the marine mammals’ navigation. The sonar confusion may be pushing the mammals into the path of vessels. 

This family-friendly event is back this summer at Jenkinson’s Boardwalk. Shows have been increased to 3 events for visitors to Point Pleasant Beach, N.J. The Princess Palooza 2023 show schedule is below:

All shows begin at 7pm on the Pavilion beach stage near the aquarium. Visitors can also catch the fireworks right afterward, weather permitting.

Join the beach tradition that happens every Tuesday night during the summer, weather permitting, when an inflatable screen goes up on the beach in front of Jenkinson’s Aquarium. 

“Simba-everything the light touches is our kingdom,” which also includes the sunset kissed sand on Jenk’s beach on June 27th when Disney’s The Lion King launches as the first film of the season. Bring your chair, drinks and beach blankets. 

Local tip: Bring an extra blanket for warmth as it gets breezy on the beach after sundown.

Point Pleasant Beach, N.J. Mayor Paul Kanitra spoke to almost a thousand people at the beach on Sunday, February 19, 2023, who showed support for a moratorium on the Wind Farm project, which began just off the Jersey Shore. 

There have been over 9 endangered whales that have washed up on shores between New York and New Jersey since December 2022.  Locals theorize the whales are being affected by the sonar exploration for the Wind project, which is pushing them into shipping lanes and causing fatal injuries.

According to the Lavallette-Seaside Shorebeat News, Seaside Heights is halfway through with their renovations to the boardwalk. Visitors will see almost half of the southern end of the boardwalk has brand new wood boards. Fencing is still in place as the crews work so be careful but the project should be complete well in time for summer! Read the whole article here.

The Manasquan inlet is a waterway located between the towns of Point Pleasant Beach and Manasquan. You’ll find recreational boaters as well as commercial fishing vessels coming and going through the inlet. It is also a secret spot for local fisherman to land some great catches!
